Lilac Skies | moments
Lilac Skies
Caspar Moxham
Lilac skies are breaking,
over this precious beach,
forlorn rays are faltering
by leaves,
golden-green.
The ruby sun is falling,
the sapphires are all glum,
the pearls have lost their lustre,
their glitter,
ground and done.
Marble clouds are gathering,
at the edge of lilac skies.
They’re hunched in mute conference
with assiduous,
grey eyes.
So I’ve built you this castle,
Made entirely of sand,
To melt in the evening rain,
and dissolve into the land.
Wind whistles through its arches,
I built it just
for you.
But I guess we’ll be letting
this fool world in, too.
I’ll clutch at this moment
with flawed, human hands.
It slips through like water,
It rains on that sand.
But take your sweet time
and pour it over me.
Melt down these turrets,
sweep clean this beach.
When the clouds,
they are empty,
And our castle,
it is through.
The moment will have passed,
and so will have you.
